Privacy Policy
On this page
This Privacy Policy explains what information Polaroids (“we, ” “us”) collects through the Polaroids mobile application (the “App”), why we collect it, and the choices you have. It is operated by Rootspace Technologies, located at Kozhikode, Kerala, India. If you have questions, contact us at support@polaroids.app.
1. Information we collect
We collect the following categories of information:
| Category | What it includes | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Account information | Name, email address (which may be an Apple private relay address), and a unique account identifier | Sign in with Apple |
| Trip information | Trip dates, destinations, coordinates, and mode of transport you enter or import | You |
| Photos | The photo files you choose to add to a trip | Your device's photo library |
| Precise location | GPS coordinates and capture date embedded in a photo's metadata (EXIF), read on your device when you add the photo, plus the place name we derive from those coordinates | Your photos' metadata |
| Subscription status | Your current plan, renewal status, and purchase history | Apple / RevenueCat |
| Push notification token | A device identifier used to deliver notifications | Your device, with your permission |
| Usage and interaction data | How you navigate and interact with the App, for improving reliability and design | Automatically, via analytics |
2. Photos and precise location
The App does not ask for background or always-on location access. However, when you add a photo to a trip, we read that photo's embedded metadata on your device to place it correctly on your map — including its precise GPS coordinates and the date it was taken, if your device recorded them. Those coordinates, and a place name derived from them, are then stored on our servers as part of your trip data so the App can show your photos on the globe. If you do not want a photo's location shared with the App, remove its location data before adding it, or add it without expecting map placement.
Photo files themselves are stored with our cloud storage provider (Supabase) and are used solely to display them back to you within the App. We do not sell your photos or use them to train any model.
3. How we use your information
- To provide the App's core functionality — storing and displaying your trips and photos.
- To authenticate you and maintain your account via Sign in with Apple.
- To process and verify your subscription and grant access accordingly.
- To send you push notifications you have opted into.
- To understand how the App is used, diagnose issues, and improve reliability and design.
- To communicate with you about your account, such as responding to a support request.
4. Who we share information with
We do not sell your personal information. We share information with the following service providers, solely to operate the Service:
| Provider | Purpose | What they receive |
|---|---|---|
| Apple | Sign in with Apple; processing App Store purchases | Identity token; purchase and transaction data |
| RevenueCat | Subscription management | Your account identifier and purchase/receipt data |
| Supabase | Database and file storage hosting | Your account, trip, and photo data |
| Microsoft Clarity | Product analytics and session behavior | In-app interaction data |
| Expo | Push notification delivery | Your push token and notification content |
| Google (Places API) / Apple Maps | Location search and map rendering | The location you search for |
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this Privacy Policy continuing to apply to your information.
5. Analytics
We use Microsoft Clarity to understand how people use the App — including screen views and interactions — so we can fix problems and improve the experience. Clarity's own privacy statement is available at learn.microsoft.com/clarity. We do not use analytics data for advertising, and the App does not use tracking that requires App Tracking Transparency consent.
6. Data retention
We retain your account, trip, and photo data for as long as your account exists. Records of purchase and subscription events are retained for accounting and support purposes for up to 12 months after they occur, or longer where required by law.
7. Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time from within the App, including from the subscription screen. When you delete your account, we delete your name, email, trips, and photos from our active systems. Some information may be retained for a limited period where required for legal, accounting, or fraud-prevention purposes. You can also request deletion by emailing support@polaroids.app.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can exercise most of these rights directly in the App; for anything else, contact support@polaroids.app.
9. International data transfers
Our service providers may process and store information outside of your country of residence, including in the United States and European Union. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses, for these transfers.
10. Children's privacy
The App is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under that age. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect your information. No method of storage or transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the App.
